Rockets split first two games

Baseball season is here and the Westwood Rockets began their 2024 season with a win over Harris and a loss to Grundy County.
On Tuesday night, the Rockets started their season off with a 10-1 win over the Harris Eagles.
Westwood struck first in the second inning, scoring three runs to take a 3-0 lead.
The Rockets would lead 6-0 before Harris scored their only run of the game in the fifth inning, and from then on, the Rockets held the point, winning the game 10-1 on a total of nine hits.
Seventh grader Trey Sullivan had three hits in five at-bats, scoring two runs and an RBI, Brady Christian had one hit in three at-bats, scoring one run and batting in three more and CJ Chavis scored two runs after being walked twice.
Also scoring runs for the Rockets were Davion Dycus, Tucker Linzey, Mason Hastings, Hayes Shemwell and Brock Christian.
Hastings earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings and striking out five batters with Davion Dycus relieving him for two innings and striking out five more batters.
On Thursday, the Rockets played host to the Grundy County Yellow Jackets where the results were less than desirable.
The Yellow Jackets started things off on the scoreboard, leading 1-0 through the first three innings before exploding for seven runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth, leading the game 11-0 before Westwood finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Grundy would leave with the win, 11-1 on six hits while the Rockets could only manage one hit from Davion Dycus.
Brock Christian scored the lone run for the Rockets which was batted in by Hayes Shemwell.
Next up for the Westwood Rockets will be a home game against the Forrest Rockets at 5:30 pm on Monday, March 4 at Fred Deadman Park.
