On Tuesday night, the Coffee Middle Lady Raiders lost on the road at Blackman, 12-6 and the Westwood Rockets lost a close road game at Huntland 5-3.

CCMS Lady Raiders: 6, Blackman Flames: 12

The game was close at the start, with the Flames scoring two runs in the game’s first inning, then the Lady Raiders scored in the top of the second to make the score 2-1.

Blackman would score one run each in the bottom of the second and third innings to take a 4-1 lead, but the Lady Raiders scored three times in the top of the fourth inning, including an Allie Raines single that drove in two runs to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

However, it would be all Blackman the rest of the way, as the Flames scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead, 7-4 before scoring another five runs over the next two innings to pile up a 12-4 lead.

Coffee County would score two runs in the top of the seventh courtesy of a Briley Jernigan single to make the score 12-6, but the Flames held on for the win.

Allie Raines and Briley Jernigan each had two RBIs on two hits, Genna Sadler would have one RBI on one hit, Bailey Hale and Briley Apicella each had two hits and Phoenix Jones had one hit.

Jernigan put in the most work in the circle, pitching over four innings, allowing 11 runs on 16 hits, striking out four batters and walking another two on 104 pitches.

The Lady Raiders are now 3-2 on the season and their next game will be at Warren County on Thursday, Mar. 21 at 5:00 pm.

Westwood Rockets: 3, Huntland Hornets: 5

It was a back and forth game between Westwood and Huntalnd through five innings of play.

The Hornets would strike first, leading the game 1-0 through the first inning, however the Rockets would tie the score in the top of the second as Cole Williams scored on a CJ Chavis single to make the score 1-1.

Huntland would score again in the bottom of the second inning to lead 2-1, but Westwood answered back in the top of the third as Brady Christian scored on a ground out by Williams to tie the score at 2-2.

The Hornets would retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, but another Williams ground out sent Davion Dycus in for a score to knot things up at 3-3.

However, the Hornets scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and would go on to win the game, 5-3.

Tucker Linzey would pitch four innings for the Rockets, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out five batters and walking two on 77 pitches, but Jathan Finchum would get credit for the loss after allowing two runs, striking out two batters and walking four on 41 pitches.

The Rockets are now 4-3 on the season and will play host to Huntland on Wednesday, Mar. 20 at 5:45 pm.
