Seventh inning comeback lifts Red Raiders over Shelbyville

On Monday night, the Coffee County Central Red Raiders scored twice in the seventh inning to give them a 3-2 road win over the Shelbyville Golden Eagles.

The Red Raiders would lead early, as a Blake Hillis single on a line drive brought Cole Pippenger home for a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Shelbyville would draw even in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 1-1, then the game went scoreless for the next two innings before the Golden Eagles scored in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead.

No team would break through in the sixth inning, then in the top of the seventh, the Red Raiders stormed back in front, as Cole Pippenger and Bird Fellers scored on two separate wild pitches, giving Coffee County a 3-2 lead.

The Red Raiders would keep the Golden Eagles at bay in the bottom of the seventh and hold on for another district win.

Blake Hillis would have one hit and an RBI, Cole Pippenger had two hits and Bird Fellers, Nate Rutledge and Brendon Sheppard each had one hit for Coffee County.

Timothy Henderson had a stellar night on the mound, pitching in all seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out 12 batters and walking just three on 114 pitches.

The Red Raiders are now 8-7-1 on the season and will play Shelbyville again, this time at home on Wednesday, Apr. 3 at 6:30 pm.
