On Monday, the Coffee Middle Red Raiders lost to Lewisburg, 7-3, the Westwood Lady Rockets beat Cannon County 7-4 and the Westwood Rockets celebrated Eighth Grade Night with a 17-0 shutout win over Fayetteville City.
CCMS Red Raiders: 3, Lewisburg Tigers: 7
The Lewisburg Tigers controlled the game right from the start, building up a 3-0 lead through the first three innings of play.
The fourth inning would be scoreless, then the Tigers scored twice in each the fifth and sixth innings to build up a commanding, 7-0 lead.
Coffee County would attempt a late comeback, scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Tigers held on for the win, 7-3.
Warren Simmons and Tanner Daugherty each had one hit and one RBI and Ethan Arnold had one hit for the Red Raiders.
Four different pitchers made an appearance on the mound for Coffee County, as Tanner Daugherty, Ethan Arnold, Augie Lynch and Mason Floyd combined for seven runs allowed on four hits, three strikeouts and 11 walks through six innings.
The Red Raiders are now 5-5 on the season and will take on Lincoln County at home on Thursday, Apr. 4.
Westwood Lady Rockets: 7, Cannon County Lionettes: 4
Both teams would score a run in the first inning, and through the first five innings of play, the score would remain tied at 1-1.
Then, in the sixth inning, the Lady Rockets exploded for six runs, taking a 7-1 lead heading into the seventh.
Cannon County would score three runs in the top of the seventh, but the Rockets held on for a 7-4 win.
For Westwood, Kylie Evans had two hits and one RBI, Addy Wild, Annie Carden, Maddi Scott, Addie Teal, Kinsleigh Parson and Mia Ahlijah all had one hit and one RBI apiece and Channing Gannon had one hit.
Maddi Scott had a fantastic game in the circle, pitching all seven innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out 16 batters and walking just two on 137 pitches.
The Lady Rockets will face Community in their next game on Wednesday, Apr. 3 at 5:30 pm.
Westwood Rockets: 17, Fayetteville City Tigers: 0
The Westwood Rockets celebrated Eighth Grade Night with a dominant win over Fayetteville City.
Before the game, Rocket eighth graders Brady Christian, Mason Hastings and Cole Williams were recognized.
The Rockets then went to work, scoring six runs in the first inning, including a Tucker Linzey double that sent C.J. Chavis and Davion Dycus in for a score.
Westwood continued their dominant start in the second inning, piling on another eight runs to take a 14-0 lead through just two innings of play.
The game would go scoreless in the third inning before the Rockets scored another three runs in the fourth with two of those runs being scored on a double by Linzey, and Westwood went on to win 17-0 in a mercy rule.
Mason Hastings and Tucker Linzey each had two hits and four RBIs, Davion Dycus had three hits and an RBI, Trey Sullivan had one hit and one RBI and C.J. Chavis, Brady Christian and Cole Williams each had one hit for the Rockets.
Hastings earned the win on the mound, pitching in all four innings, allowing just one hit, striking out seven batters and walking just one on 53 pitches.
The Rockets are scheduled to play Fayetteville City on the road on Tuesday, Apr. 2 at 5:30 pm.
