On Wednesday, the Coffee Middle Lady Raiders held off a late charge by Warren County to win 4-3 and advance to the AA Area 6 Championship game.

The game would be a defensive battle in the first three innings, as no team could seem to break through for a score.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lady Raiders broke the ice, scoring four runs as Taley Hardin scored on a grounder by Payton Thomas, Anna Belle Mullins scored on a line drive double by Maggie Bailey and Paige Chilton drove in two runs with a line drive single to give Coffee County a 4-0 lead.

Warren County would score three times in the top of the sixth inning, but it wouldn’t be enough and the Lady Raiders held them off for the win.

Paige Chilton had one hit and two RBIs, Maggie Bailey had one hit and one RBI, Allie Raines had two hits and Kenzie Shelton, along with Briley Jernigan each had one hit for the Lady Raiders.

Jernigan would earn the win in the circle, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out four batters and walking two on 69 pitches. Briley Apicella would pitch 1.1 innings in relief.

The Coffee Middle Lady Raiders will play host to Franklin County in the AA Area 6 Championship Game on Thursday, May 2.
