Red Raiders fall to Columbia in first round of District Tournament

On Wednesday night, the CCCHS Red Raiders fell 11-3 to the Columbia Central Lions in the first round of the 4A District 9 Tournament.

The Red Raiders would start off on the right foot, getting on the scoreboard first with Cole Pippenger firing off a solo home run in the top of the first inning to give Coffee County a 1-0 lead.

Coffee County would add to their lead in the top of the second inning with Brendon Sheppard doubling on a fly ball to left field to send Bird Fellers and Davis McKenzie home to make the score 3-0.

Columbia would score twice in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 3-2, then in the bottom of the third inning, the Lions scored three runs to take a 5-3 lead.

From then on, the Lions remained in control, scoring one run in the bottom of the fifth inning and exploding for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to win the game, 11-3.

For Coffee County, Brendon Sheppard had one hit and two RBIs, Cole Pippenger had one hit and one RBI, Davis McKenzie had two hits and Bird Fellers had one hit.

Fellers would get the start on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out four batters and walking two on 49 pitches. Timothy Henderson would be credited with the loss after pitching 1.1 innings, allowing three runs and walking two batters on 33 pitches with Isaiah Deadman, Nate Rutledge, Brady Daugherty and Cason Shores all making a relief appearance.

Columbia Central will move on to play Spring Hill in the next round with Coffee County playing the loser of that game on Friday, May 3 at 4:00 pm.
