On Thursday, the Lady Raider volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory against Lincoln County, the Lady Raider soccer team suffered another tough loss at home to Tullahoma and the Red Raider golf team placed third among five teams at Tullahoma.
Lady Raiders Volleyball
The Lady Raider volleyball team had to battle it out against district opponent Lincoln County for a hard earned victory at Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gymnasium.
Coffee County had the edge at the start of the first set, building a 9-4 lead early on, but Lincoln County battled back, whittling the Lady Raider lead down before tying the match at 21-21 and then taking a 22-21 lead.
However, the Lady Raiders outscored the Lady Falcons 4-1 the rest of the way to win the first set 25-23.
Coffee County dominated the start of the second set, building a 10-2 lead before Lincoln County called a timeout. The Lady Falcons would try to battle back, but the Lady Raiders still managed to win 25-20 and go up 2-0 in the match.
The third set was arguably the closest battle of the night, as both teams were deadlocked at 10-10 midway through the set. Coffee County would build up a seven point lead at one point, but Lincoln County battled back to win 25-23 to keep the match going.
After another close battle in the fourth set, the Lady Raiders won 25-21 for a 3-1 victory.
Savannah Cooper led the team in aces with seven while Morgen Spears had 16 assists and Rylee Clark had eight kills.
Clark was recently voted The Tennessean’s Nashville Area Athlete of the Week.
The Lady Raiders improve to 4-1 on the season and will travel to Columbia Central on Tuesday, Sept. 3 to take on the Lady Lions, who are 5-1.
Lady Raider Soccer
The Lady Raider Soccer team had another tough outing in this year’s edition of the Coffee Cup against rival Tullahoma.
Tullahoma’s offense was ruthless, scoring four goals in each half to win the match 8-0.
Coffee County had two shots on goal with one each from Lilly Matherne and Ava Martin, but the Lady Raiders were unable to break through for a score.
The Lady Raiders are now 0-5 and will travel to Warren County on Tuesday, Sept. 3 for their next match.
Red Raider Golf
The Red Raiders placed third among five teams in a nine hole match at Lakewood Golf and Country Club.
Jack Stowe led the way for Coffee County with a 35 while Noah Costello scored a 36 and Landon Collins and Levi Rossman each carded a 42 to give Coffee County a team score of 155, placing them third among the five teams competing in the event.
Lawrence County won the match with a team score of 148 and their best individual effort coming from Hud Mattox, who led all golfers with a score of 33.
Tullahoma placed second with a team score of 154 and were led by Jack Hill, who turned in a 37.
In the girls match, Coffee County placed first among the four teams competing in the event as Leah Kate Sullivan’s 52 and Karsyn Riddle’s 63 gave the Lady Raiders a team score of 115 to beat Lincoln County’s 131.
Red Raider golf will take part in the Keith Maxwell Tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 3 which will be held at McMinnville Country Club starting at 9 a.m.
