Lady Raiders come up short in State Tournament

The CCMS Lady Raiders closed out the 2024 season in the consolation bracket of the TMSAA State Championships on Friday in Brentwood.

Coffee County began the tournament on Thursday in Pool C with Arlington, Liberty Creek and Sullivan East.

In their first pool play game, the Lady Raiders took on the Section 5 Champion Liberty Creek Wolves.

The Wolves proved to be a tough test for Coffee County, as Liberty Creek won the first set 25-11 and the second set 25-15 to win the match 2-0.

In their second pool play match, the Lady Raiders were pitted against the Sullivan East Lady Patriots.

The Section 1 Champions would win the first set 25-19, then Coffee County tied the match with a 25-21 win in the second set. The third set would take extra points to decide, but the Lady Patriots won 17-15 to win the game 2-1.

Coffee County would win their third pool play game against the Section 7 Champion Arlington Tigers 2-1, but the Lady Raiders finished in the bottom two of the four-team pool, placing them in the consolation bracket for Friday.

In their first round game of the consolation bracket, the Lady Raiders would be placed against the Section 8 Champion Houston Mustangs.

The Lady Raiders would lead late in the first set, but the Mustangs came back to win 26-24, and then take the second set 25-16 to advance to the fifth place game.

With the loss, the Coffee County Middle Lady Raiders ended a successful 2024 campaign with an overall record of 21-7, having placed second in the CTC Tournament, second in the 2A Area 6 Tournament and first in the 2A Section 3 Tournament.
