Lady Rockets suffer first loss, Rockets finish sweep of Gators

The Lady Rockets fell short against the North Gatorettes 30-27 while the Rockets completed a season sweep of the Gators 45-41 on Tuesday night in Winchester.

The Westwood Lady Rockets couldn’t seem to get anything going on offense in the first half against North, only managing seven total points at the halftime break.

Westwood tried to mount a second half comeback, even outscoring the Gatorettes 12-7 in the fourth quarter, but the early hole dug by the Lady Rockets proved to be too deep, as Westwood fell 30-27 for their first loss of the season.

Carter Trail led the team in scoring with eight points.

With the loss, the Lady Rockets fall to 2-1 on the season.

Westwood Rockets

The Westwood Rockets had a good start in the first quarter, outscoring North 17-10 with Isiah Buchanan and Brock Christian each scoring six points in the opening frame.

North would answer by outscoring Westwood 13-7 in the second quarter, but the Rockets still held a narrow 24-23 lead at the halftime break.

Westwood’s defense would hold the Gators to just four points in the third quarter, and heading into the fourth, the Rockets held a 33-27 advantage.

North would outscore Westwood in the fourth quarter 14-12, but the Rockets held off the Gators to complete the season sweep, 45-41.
