WALKER

 George H. Walker, Jr., age 80, of Normandy,  went to be with his Heavenly Father Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024.  He was born on July 1, 1944, in West Point, Georgia to the late George Henry Walker, Sr., and Nadine Foster Walker. When George was a child, his family moved to Hartselle, Alabama, where he graduated from Morgan County High School in 1962.  He went on to attend Auburn University, where he graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor’s in Building Construction from the School of Architecture, and moved to Birmingham, where he accepted a position with Doster Construction Company as Project Manager. George earned an impeccable reputation and was sought out by other companies, including Community Health Systems, Stone Building Company, and Garner Stone.  George was a proud member of the United States Army Reserves, and attended Officers Candidate School at Fort McClellan, Alabama.  After receiving his commission, he served faithfully for 38 years.  During his service to his country, George, attended the U.S. Army War College, earning his rank of Brigadier General. He was passionate about sports and worked for many years as a Gulf South Conference football official. George was also a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Caldwell Walker; daughter, Susan Ashley Walker Teague (Dylan); daughter, Johanna Fergus Reed (Brian); son, Jared Fergus; grandchildren, William Leslie Kearley, Ruth Ann Kearley, Eleanor Kathryn Teague, and Nathan Mullins; and brother, Thomas Foster Walker (Sandra). He also leaves behind a loving church family. The family received friends from 5 – 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 and from 10 – 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at Trinity Baptist Church.  A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Jerry Pullum officiating.  Interment was at Blanton’s Chapel Cemetery.
