The Coffee Middle Lady Raiders improved their perfect record to 6-0 with a 39-19 win over the South Lady Trojans while the Red Raiders extended their winning streak to five after a 38-21 victory on Thursday night.
CCMS Lady Raiders
The Lady Raiders raced out to a fast start, outscoring the Lady Trojans 16-3 in the first quarter.
South battled back in the second quarter, but the Lady Raiders still held a 25-11 advantage at the half.
Both teams struggled on offense to begin the second half with each team scoring 3 points in the third quarter, but the Lady Raiders pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 39-19.
“I don’t know what it is about our team and the third quarter this year, but I’m proud of our team tonight,” said Coach David Vinson. “South was an unbeaten team going into this game, and when you beat an unbeaten team, you know you did something right. It was a good win and it gives us first place in the CTC, but there’s still a lot of games left and we have three big games next week.”
With the win, the Lady Raiders improve their perfect record to 6-0.
Box Score: South Franklin Lady Trojans (19) Macie Davis 9, Victoria Latham 7, Peyton Pendergrass 2, Abby Repass 1.
Coffee County Lady Raiders (39) Jenslee Nogodula 15, Harper Crosslin 12, Kinsley Pruitt 7, Avery Pruitt 3, Brylyn McAdams 2.
CCMS Red Raiders
The Trojans had the advantage at the start, outscoring Coffee County 9-8 in the first quarter.
Coffee County’s defense provided a second quarter spark, limiting South to just three points while the Red Raiders forged ahead 21-12 at halftime.
The Red Raiders defense continued to play well to start the second half, allowing just three points in the third quarter to help give them a 28-15 advantage heading into the fourth quarter, where they would finish things off with a 38-21 victory.
“We threw a few different defensive looks at them,” said Coach Jason Creek. “We knew we wanted to press. We didn’t know how long we could press, but we ended up pressing them pretty much the whole game. Our boys played really well defensively and battled. It was a great win over a really good team.”
The Red Raiders have now won five games in a row since their season-opening loss to East Tullahoma, improving their season mark to 5-1.
“The coaches and I were talking and it’s really hard to get over that first game loss,” said Creek. “Coach Jerry, who’s always a ray of sunshine, says that it’s probably the best thing that’s happened to these boys, and it may be, because they may have thought they weren’t in a good place yet, but they’re clicking now, especially on defense. Offensively, there’s still some things to work on, but it’s there…we have some unselfish kids who don’t really care about the box score and they’ll do anything to get their team a win.”
