Editorial: The fight continues for the bridge
B
The fight continues for The Old Stone Fort Bridge Preservation Group. TDEC is using smoke and mirrors to provide the appearance they “listened to visitor feedback” with their ‘refreshed design’ of a replacement bridge. They’re threatening your state park’s appearance, are insisting on environmental destruction and absolutely have not listened. Coffee County is using their voice to be heard by granting us funds in the amount of $36,000 to continue our legal pursuit. To clarify this money is allocated to tourism and can only be used for economic development. They are UNANIMOUS on their support from Resolution 2023-19 and urge the State of Tennessee to SAVE THE BRIDGE and leave it where it is. This bridge is part of our heritage and a huge draw for visitors to our town and county. State Representative Rush Bricken and Senator Janice Bowling are on our side and fighting along with us against this bureaucracy – we need everyone’s support and voice as we continue. The group’s attorney has a work stay and appeal to go before Coffee County Chancery Court as soon as we are legally allowed within the next week. TDEC’s press release to commence construction October 20th is finding opposition from Rep. Bricken, Coffee County Mayor Dennis Hunt, our community and of course OSF Bridge Preservation Group. Our group’s next meeting is November 1st at 10am at Dunkin’ Donuts – please join us. Respectfully, (931) 273-0768
