CCHS wrestling competes at Blackman Earlybird tournament

A week after getting started with the T-Town Rumble Preseason Tournament, the Coffee County High School wrestling team was back on the mat at the Blackman Earlybird Tournament in Murfreesboro this past Saturday.

Boys’ first-place finishers for the Red Raiders included Marcus Uselton in the 116-119 weight class, who closed out the third round with a win by fall over Cornersville’s Bryson Cree. William Barlow also took first place in the 156-164 weight division with a third-round win by major decision (8-0) over Community’s Isaiah Beech. Eli McLean took the top spot in the 159-160 class with a 14-1 major decision third-round victory over Montgomery Central’s Wyatt Koffer.

First-place finishes on the girls’ side included Sophia Rodriguez in the 102-106 weight class, winning by fall over Bradley Central’s Brooke Estopore in the third round. Gabriella Silva added a first-place finish in the 133-136 division via a third-round medical forfeit over Walker Valley’s Bella Martinez. Ellysia Jennings took the top spot in the 163-170 class, winning by forfeit over Rossview’s Taelyn Atkinson in the third round. Competing in the 164-167 weight division, Marlee Wimley placed first with a win by fall over Tullahoma’s Emma Calcagno in the third round.

Coffee County will be back on the road to take on Rockvale and Page at Rockvale High School Thursday evening. Wrestling is set to begin at 6 p.m.
