Rec. Center to see $688,000 in capital repairs

During their March 3 meeting, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a transfer of $688,591.84 from a capital projects budget to the Recreation Department that will go to planned renovations at the Rec. Complex.

The transfer, a good-faith measure by the Board to show its willingness to commit to improvements, will go towards nine pool pumps, strainers and baskets for the pool and various painting projects including the exterior of the building.

Mayor Joey Hobbs said during a Finance Committee meeting that the improvements will help the Complex improve its revenues.

Alderman Thomas Crosslin said at that meeting that the improvements are an investment, and the board will expect revenue increases.

Crosslin asked Director A.J. Fox to report back to the Board with updates on the renovations.

“There will be accountability as far as the dollars and cents,” Crosslin said.

The transfer passed Finance 2-0 and unanimously at BOMA.
