PREP ROUNDUP: CHS softball holds off Siegel

The Coffee County softball team opened its week with a road win Tuesday.
Traveling to Murfreesboro to take on Siegel, the Lady Raiders jumped out early and did just enough to overcome a late push from the Lady Stars to preserve a 10-9 victory.
Coffee County finished with 10 hits, led by Ella Arnold with four. Cara Newlin added two hits. Lily Norman, Maggie Montgomery, Taylor McBride and Bailey Hale all had one hit each.
The team also posted seven RBI, with Norman taking the top spot with three. Newlin, Montgomery, Hale and Raelyn Wainwright each had one RBI.
Haleigh Skipper pitched through the first four innings, coming out of the circle with five strikeouts, four hits, three runs and two walks to earn the win. Norman followed for the final three innings, picking up the save with six strikeouts, six hits, six runs and three walks in this span.
Coffee County (3-2) returns home to host Blackman at 5 p.m. Wednesday evening.
High School Tennis
CHS swept by Shelbyville
The Coffee County tennis team returned to the courts for a home match against Shelbyville Tuesday afternoon.
Neither the Red Raiders or Lady Raiders picked up a win this time around, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams falling 7-0.
Coffee County gets back on the road to take on Lawrence County at 2 p.m. Monday.
Middle School Softball
Westwood 9, Moore County 2
The Lady Rockets picked up their first win of the season in dominant fashion on the road Tuesday evening.
Westwood finished the game with 10 hits, led by Elly Wild and McKenna Kehely with two each. This included a home run for Kehely in the top of the third inning. Maleah Chavis, McClayne Finch, Callie Kapise, Harper Hiles, Izzy Sartain and Baileigh Mancha each had one hit.
Kehely drove in two of the team’s six RBI. Chavis, Kapise, Hiles and Mancha had one each.
Skyleigh Cooper pitched a complete game, striking out eight and holding Moore County to four hits, two runs and three walks across all seven innings.
Westwood (1-2) travels to Woodbury to take on Cannon County Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
DeKalb County 5, Coffee County 0
The Lady Raiders’ three-game winning streak came to an end in a shutout home loss Tuesday.
Coffee County posted four hits over the course of the game, led by Addie Haley with three. Siri Cruz had one hit.
Cruz pitched the first five innings, coming out with three strikeouts, seven hits, three runs and three walks. Amaya Campbell followed through the game’s remainder, striking out three and adding two more hits.
Coffee County (3-2) hits the road to take on Franklin County Thursday evening, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
