Missoula shooting suspect identified and charged with homicide

MISSOULA, Mont. – A man involved in a shooting on March 4, 2026, in the 2200 block of North Reserve Street has been charged with deliberate homicide.
Court documents reveal that Brandon Tyler Wakefield has been identified as one of the two men arrested in connection with the incident.
The Missoula Police Department and Missoula County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of shots fired at Town Pump and Lil’s Casino on Reserve Street.
Upon arrival, officers found four armed men in tactical gear and body armor. Three of the men had their hands raised, while Wakefield was performing CPR on the victim, Joshua Wykle, who had been shot.
The other three men identified Wakefield as the shooter. The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office reported that the four men appeared to be bail bondsmen.
Three of the men were escorted from the scene, and medical personnel took over CPR for Wykle, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
