Tennessee Equality Project responds to passage of state House bill

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Equality Project has shared its statement on the passage of HB754 or the “Trans Data Surveillance Bill” on the Tennessee House Floor on Thursday, March 26, 2026.

“While we’re disappointed that the House has passed HB754 — a bill that’s traded on a story of health equality and health access — we know that the real purpose of this bill continues to be targeting trans and gender diverse patients and their providers throughout the state of Tennessee,” stated TEP Nashville co-chair Dahron Johnson.

“While it isn’t a done deal yet … that means that we call on all legislators here (and) in the Senate and voices throughout the state, communities and allies … to write, call, step out and speak up against this bill while there’s still time to act against it.”

Its Senate companion bill — SB676 — has been sent to Calendar & Rules, according to information shared by the Tennessee Equality Project (TEP).

Representatives of the Tennessee Equality Project — Tennessee’s leading advocacy group “fighting harmful anti-LGBTQ legislation at the state level” — reportedly gathered at the State Capitol on Thursday (along with HRC Nashville, PFLAG Nashville and “special guests” Singing Resistance Nashville and Southern Christian Coalition) to advocate against the passage of House Bill No. 754.

The bill ultimately passed the House on Thursday.

Founded in 2004, the Tennessee Equality Project is Tennessee’s statewide LGBTQ rights and public policy organization.
