A man who made threats against a business and the local jail was arrested last week at a school.

On Thursday, March 26, the Sweetwater Police Department responded to information regarding a subject who had allegedly made threats toward a local business and the Monroe County Justice Center.

While officers were actively searching for the individual, a Brown Intermediate School SRO and an off-duty Sweetwater Police Officer observed a suspicious male on school property. The school was immediately placed on a soft lockdown as a precaution.

Officers quickly made contact with the subject and safely took him into custody. During the arrest, officers recovered a small metal baseball bat and a knife. No students or staff were in danger during the arrest.

The subject was identified as Damarcus Taylor, who was charged with carrying weapons on school property, harassment, threats of mass violence on school property and disrupting a meeting or procession.

“We want to recognize the quick actions of the SRO, the off-duty officer, school staff and responding officers for helping ensure this situation was handled safely and effectively,” stated a news release from the Sweetwater Police Department. “All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
