PREP ROUNDUP: Local softball teams compete in Thursday matchups

All three of the area’s softball teams across both the high school and middle school level were in action Thursday evening.

At the high school level, Coffee County traveled to Fayetteville for a rematch with Lincoln County. The Lady Raiders were once again shut out by the district foe, falling 11-0 in four-and-a-half innings this time around to give Lincoln County the regular-season sweep.

Bailey Hale, Lily Norman, Madison Waller and Taylor McBride each had one hit for a team total of four.

Yeidy Cruz pitched the first three innings, coming out with two strikeouts, 10 hits, 11 runs and three walks. Maddi Scott followed for the game’s remainder, adding two hits.

Coffee County (13-11, 3-2 district) returns home to host Cookeville for another district rematch at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Lady Raiders won the previous meeting 15-0 in Cookeville on March 30.

High School Boys’ Soccer

Shelbyville 4, Coffee County 1

The Red Raiders were unable to keep their recent district match momentum going in a home loss to the Golden Eagles Thursday night.

Trailing 2-1 after the first half, the Red Raiders fell further behind on a pair of second-half Shelbyville goals to bring the match to what was its final score.

Coffee County (3-5, 3-2 district) remains in district play for a road matchup against Columbia at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Middle School Softball

Coffee County 8, Lincoln County 7

The Lady Raiders battled back from an early 5-0 deficit to win by a run at home against Lincoln County Thursday.

The team finished with 11 hits, led by Addie Haley with four. Amaya Campbell, Kalli Byers and Kayda Ferrell added two each. Izzy Haynes had one hit.

Coffee County also had seven RBI on the evening, with two each for Haley and Campbell. Byers, Ferrell and Liberty Hill each had one.

Campbell pitched a complete game, finishing with four strikeouts, five hits, seven runs and two walks.

Coffee County (10-4) returns to the road with a trip to Stewarts Creek Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Fayetteville City 5, Westwood 2

The Lady Rockets suffered their third straight loss on the road in Fayetteville Thursday evening.

McKenna Kehely had both of the team’s two hits, as well as both RBI.

Paisley Prater got it started in the circle, coming out in the bottom of the fourth inning with three strikeouts, one hit, five runs and five walks. Skyleigh Cooper closed it out from there, adding four strikeouts and one walk through the game’s remainder.

Westwood (5-7) returns home to host Community at 5 p.m. Monday.
