Mother charged after infant death

A Shelley Road woman is facing charges after Coffee County Sheriff’s Department responded to an unresponsive infant.  

Just after 6 a.m. on  April 12 , Coffee County Sheriffs Office and County EMS responded to 383 Shelley Rd. in Manchester to a CPR in progress.

According to Sheriff Chad Partin, responders arrived and found an unresponsive one-month-old infant. EMS confirmed infant was deceased. Deputies secured the scene. Sheriff and Investigators arrived along with the DA investigator.

Investigators believe  that 21 year old Emaleigh Grace Staffard filed a false report and tampered with evidence. She was taken into custody and transported to the Coffee County Jail where she was charged with tampering with evidence. 

Partin said infant has been taken to Nashville for autopsy. Defendant is under a $15,000 bond for these charges pending the outcome of this ongoing investigation.

“I’m not able to give any further details about this case at this time due to the ongoing investigation. Please keep this child’s family in your prayers and for all those who are involved in this difficult investigation,” Partin said.
