PREP ROUNDUP: CHS baseball falls, middle school teams win Friday contests

The Coffee County baseball team returned home from its trip to Cascade with a loss Friday evening.
After going up by a run in the top of the first, the Red Raiders fell behind in the bottom of the inning and continued trailing Cascade on the way to a 9-2 loss.
Coffee County finished with nine hits, led by Preston Steele, Grayson Sadler and Matt Moore with two each. Landan Abellana, Elijah Vernon and Chase Leonard each had one hit.
Moore and Boone Floyd each had one RBI for a team total of two.
Xander Meeks pitched the first five innings, finishing with five strikeouts, seven hits, eight runs and one walk. Floyd took his place, adding one strikeout, one hit, one run and one walk through the game’s remainder.
Coffee County (13-10) returns home to host Cookeville for a district matchup Monday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Middle School Baseball
Westwood 5, Cascade 3
The Rockets took care of business in a home win Friday.
Casen Francisco, CJ Chavis Jr., Brock Christian, Luke Christian, Griffyn Woods and Will Levengood each had one hit for a team total of six.
Woods finished with two of the team’s four RBI, with Brock Christian and Luke Christian adding one each.
Luke Christian got it started for Westwood on the mound, coming off after five innings with four strikeouts, six hits, one run and two walks. Brock Christian followed for the game’s remainder, adding three strikeouts, three hits, two runs and three walks over the last two innings.
The win put Westwood at 11-8 on the season.
Coffee County 5, Siegel 3
The Red Raiders came home from Murfreesboro with a win Friday.
Mason Floyd was credited with two of Coffee County’s five hits. Braxton Swack, Tripp Trussler and Cooper Melton each had one hit.
The team also had three RBI, including one each for Swack, Melton and Aiden McNeese.
Swack was the Red Raiders’ starting pitcher, coming off in the bottom of the fifth inning with four strikeouts, two hits, three runs and three walks. Aiden McNeese came on to close it out, adding one strikeout and three walks over the game’s remainder.
Coffee County (7-4) hosts Lincoln County at 5 p.m. Tuesday evening.
