Coffee County 4-H Members Excel at Regional Judging Contest

Coffee County 4-H members had an outstanding showing at the Central Region 4-H Meats Judging & Identification and Livestock Judging Contest, held at the MTSU Livestock Arena.

A total of 31 youth competed in the Meats Judging contest, while 34 participants represented the county in Livestock Judging, the largest group Coffee County has taken to compete in these events. The strong participation reflects a growing interest in agricultural education and hands-on learning opportunities among local youth.

Coffee County teams earned several top placements in both contests. In the Meats Judging competition, the Junior division (4th–5th grade) placed two teams in the top four. The 4th place team included Grady Weaver, Cooper Gunn, Holt Thompson, and Tucker McKnight, while the 3rd place team consisted of Walker McKnight, Hagan Willis, Maggi Hill, and Curtis Rowe.

Several individuals also placed in the top ten. Hagan Willis earned 10th place and Walker McKnight placed 6th in the Junior division. In the Senior High division, Sarah Weaver secured a 9th place finish.

In Livestock Judging, Coffee County’s Junior High team (6th–8th grade) brought home top honors as the Champion Team. Team members included Kasi Hill, Kinsy Gunter, Gavin Kuhn, and Maggie Gunn.

Individual honors in Livestock Judging were also impressive. Kinsy Gunter was named Junior High Champion, while Gavin Kuhn placed 3rd and Maggi Hill placed 6th. Sarah Weaver also earned a 9th place finish in the Senior High division.

The success of the program is credited to the dedication of coaches, volunteers, and families. Jamie and Ashley Weaver coached both the Meats and Livestock Judging teams, while Matthew McBride assisted senior members with oral reasons. Parents also played a vital role by transporting youth to practices and competitions across the region, including trips to Fayetteville, Knoxville, and Lebanon, and by providing meals during practice sessions.

With strong participation and impressive performances across the board, Coffee County 4-H continues to provide valuable leadership and skill-building opportunities for youth in the community.
