Westwood softball takes down Moore Thursday

The Westwood softball team held off a late push from the Raiderettes to preserve a 13-11 road win Thursday.

Westwood finished the game with 16 hits, led by McKenna Kehely with four. Maleah Chavis and Izzy Sartain followed with three each. Paisley Prater added two hits. Callie Kapise, Elly Wild, Addison Dinwiddie and McClayne Finch each had one hit.

Kehely also led the team in RBI with three of its 11. Chavis, Sartain and Wild all brought in two each. Prater and Kapise each had two RBI.

Kehely got it started in the circle, coming out in the bottom of the fifth inning with five strikeouts, 10 hits, 10 runs and seven walks. Skyleigh Cooper closed it out from there, adding four hits and one run.

The win put Westwood at 9-10 on the season.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS Middle School Baseball

Eagleville 12, Westwood 11

The Rockets battled back from an early deficit, but fell in a close one on the road Wednesday.

Westwood posted 15 hits over the course of the game, led by Brock Christian, CJ Chavis Jr. and Jackson Vernon with three each. This included a three-run home run for Brock Christian to tie the game at 1111 in the top of the sixth, before Eagleville retook the lead in the bottom of the inning. Luke Christian and Will Levengood each added two hits. Casen Francisco and Max Stewart both had one hit.

Brock Christian was credited with four of the team’s nine RBI. Chavis Jr. followed with two RBI. Stewart, Vernon and Luke Christian had one RBI each.

Brock Christian got it started on the mound, coming off after two innings with one strikeout, four hits, five runs and five walks. Stewart took his place, adding two strikeouts, six hits, six runs and two walks over the next three innings. Up next was Levengood, who wrapped it up with one strikeout, one run and three walks in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The loss put Westwood at 13-10 on the season.


Lincoln County 8, Coffee County 0

The Red Raiders were held scoreless on the way to a road loss Wednesday.

Tripp Trussler and Aiden McNeese each had one hit for two as a team.

Braxton Swack was Coffee County’s starting pitcher, coming off after four innings with four strikeouts, six hits, eight runs and two walks. Bentley Ater came on in relief, closing it out with two strikeouts, one hit and two walks through the game’s conclusion.

The loss dropped Coffee County to 7-9 on the season.

Middle School Softball

Community 14, Westwood 4

The Lady Rockets fell in four innings on the way to a road loss Wednesday.

Prater and Finch each had two hits for a team total of four.

Prater also connected on two of the team’s three RBI, with Finch adding the third.

Kehely pitched a complete game, finishing with three strikeouts, seven hits, 14 runs and eight walks.

The loss put Westwood at 8-10 on the season.

TUESDAY, APRIL 21 RESULTS Middle School Baseball


Westwood 11, Liberty 5

The Rockets took off early on the way to a win over the Patriots last Tuesday.

Westwood finished with 13 hits, including two each for Chavis Jr., Levengood, Luke Christian, Brock Christian and Logan Mc-Kenzie. This included a three-run home run for Chavis Jr. in the bottom of the first inning. Stewart, Vernon and Griffyn Woods each had one hit.

Chavis Jr. was credited with four of the team’s eight RBI. Stewart followed with two. Levengood and Luke Christian both had one RBI each.

Chavis Jr. got it started on the mound, coming off in the top of the fourth inning with six strikeouts, three hits, four runs and four walks. Aidyn Jones relieved him, adding two walks before getting pulled later in the top of the fourth. He was replaced by Luke Christian, who finished it off with four strikeouts, two hits and two walks.


Blackman 7, Coffee County 5

The Red Raiders kept it close, but were unable to return home from Murfreesboro with a win last Tuesday.

The team finished with six hits, including two each for Mc-Neese and Mason Floyd. Trussler and Ater each had one hit.

McNeese and Tyce De-Palma had one RBI each for a team total of two.

Liam Niece was on the mound through the first four innings, finishing his day with six hits, six runs and three walks. McNeese took over from there, adding one strikeout, two hits, one run and three walks through the game’s remainder.
