Morgen Spears signs with Volunteer State for volleyball

Volleyball has been an important part of life for Morgen Spears during her time at Coffee County Central High School. As of Wednesday afternoon, it will continue to be a part of her life at the college level.

Spears signed her national letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, where she will be a member of the volleyball team. Spears held her signing in the Coffee County Central High School library.

“I’m super grateful and excited that volleyball has gave me the opportunity to continue my education as well in a different place and just also to be able to continue playing volleyball,” Spears said. “I’m just grateful for everything and just the opportunity.”

The Lady Pioneers are led by head coach Taylor Mott and are members of the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association.

Spears said the program appealed to her during the recruitment process due to the friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

“As soon as I entered the gym, the girls there that were already committed and the coach, they all just came up and gave me a hug and started just joking around,” Spears said. “It just felt like home, it felt like here and that just really made the ultimate decision for me that I wanted to go there.”

Off the court, Spears plans to major in political science. After her two years at Volunteer State, her goal is to transfer and complete her degree before eventually going on to law school.

She added that she was thankful for all of her loved ones for helping her get to this point.

“My family and all of my friends that supported me along the way,” Spears said.
