Gunfire erupts outside northeast Memphis apartments, striking woman inside bedroom, MPD says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Gunshots rang outside northeast Memphis apartments Friday night, striking a woman inside her bedroom and seriously injuring her, police said.

Memphis police said it all started just before 8:30 p.m., when officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex on Quailbrook Drive off Macon and Whitten roads. There, they found a woman lying on her side outside a unit, police said.

The woman told police that she was in her room playing a computer game when she was struck by gunfire. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition, MPD said.

MPD said investigators talked to other tenants who said they were inside their homes when shots rang out. One of them reported seeing two bullet holes in his living room wall, police said.

Officers later found shell casings underneath a tree near a lake in the area, MPD said.

Police said they did not have information on possible suspects.
