PREP ROUNDUP: CHS baseball holds on for win over Battle Creek

Coffee County baseball made it three in a row Saturday.
Traveling to Spring Hill to take on Battle Creek, the Red Raiders got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning and remained ahead on the way to a 3-2 victory.
Landan Abellana connected on three of the team’s four hits. Ethan McKenzie had one hit.
Jaxon Pruitt posted Coffee County’s lone RBI.
Kasen Shores got it started on the mound, finishing with two strikes and one walk after one inning. Isaiah Deadman followed, adding one hit and one walk until coming off in the bottom of the third. Boone Floyd closed it out from there, striking out nine and holding Battle Creek to four hits, two runs and one walk through the game’s remainder.
Coffee County (3-3) takes on Upperman at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Middle School Baseball
Westwood 8, Huntland 7
The Rockets got back on track Saturday, holding off a late push from Huntland to pick up a five-inning road win.
Luke Christian, Brock Christian, Casen Francisco, Logan McKenzie, Jackson Vernon and Will Levengood each had one hit for a team total of six.
Francisco was credited with three of the team’s five RBI. Luke Christian had two RBI.
CJ Chavis Jr. struck out six and held Huntland to four walks through the first four innings. Vernon took his place to start the bottom of the fifth, coming off with two strikeouts, two hits, seven runs and four walks. Levengood followed to close out the inning and added one hit.
Westwood (6-2) returns home to host Cascade Wednesday evening. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
Middle School Softball
Coffee County takes Whitthorne doubleheader
The Lady Raiders were back in action Saturday, hosting Whitthorne for a pair of games.
Coffee County dominated both matchups, winning the first 11-1 in four innings before holding the Lady Tigers scoreless on the way to an 11-0, four-inning victory.
In the first game, Siri Cruz led the Lady Raiders at the plate with two of their six hits.
Cruz also came away with four of the team’s seven RBI. Aubrey Brown followed with two. Amaya Campbell had one RBI.
Campbell pitched a complete game, striking out five and holding Whitthorne to two hits and one run across all four innings.
In the second game, Coffee County posted 13 hits, with two each for Campbell, Brown, Cruz, Liberty Hill and Kayda Ferrell. This included a home run for Campbell in the top of the second inning.
Cruz also led the team in RBI with four of its 11. Hill added two RBI.
In the circle, Cruz pitched a complete game of her own, finishing with six strikeouts and one hit through all four innings.
The wins put Coffee County at 6-2 on the season.
