REED

 William Alvis Reed, age 91, of Manchester, passed from this life on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his children. Mr. Reed was born in Bedford County, to his late parents Enos Fay Reed and Julia Avis Coats Reed. He worked in Sales at Manchester Lumber and Supply then retired with 26 years of service at Batesville Casket Company. When he retired he developed a passion for “many, many items – too numerous to mention”, auctions and yard sales, so he could go to the stock barn and try to unload some of his treasures. Mr. Reed was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Penny Taylor Reed; siblings, Herbert Reed, James Reed, Bobby Reed, Howard Reed, Donnie Reed, Nellie Smith, and Betty Peek; son-in-law, Robert Swiger. Mr. Reed is survived by sons, William “Duke” Reed, Charles “Tony” Reed; daughters, Julia (Mike) Davis and Teresa Swiger; brother, Ross (Linda) Reed; 12 grandchildren, Misti, Jennifer, Crystal, Sarah, Rebecca, Derek, Racheal, Jessica, Jakobe, Kate, Toni, Shannon, and 20 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 6, , from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Central Funeral Home in Manchester. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 4100 Ragsdale Rd., Manchester, TN 37355, with Bro. Kelly Lewis officiating, with burial to follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Coffee County. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
