Tenant followed intruder outside before deadly shooting at East Memphis apartment, records show
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis police charged a man with voluntary manslaughter after investigators said he shot and killed a man who entered his East Memphis apartment early Thursday morning, court records show.
According to an affidavit, 30-year-old Marques Griffin told investigators a noise woke him up inside his apartment in the 1200 block of Robin Hood Lane. He said he grabbed a gun from under his pillow and found a man on the floor of his living room beneath an open window.
Court records show the man told Griffin, “I didn’t know anyone lived here,” before leaving through the front door.
Griffin followed the man outside and fired three shots as the man ran away, records show.
Records show Griffin placed the gun on his bed and called the police.
Officers arrived and found the man unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics took the man to Regional One in critical condition, where he later died.
Records show a handgun was recovered on the bed during a search of the apartment.
