CHS wrestling takes on Oakland, Franklin County

The Coffee County wrestling team returned to Raider Academy Tuesday night, welcoming Oakland and Franklin County for a tri-meet.

The Red Raiders opened the evening with a 46-24 loss to Oakland, but bounced back with a 64-11 victory over Franklin County. On the girls’ side, the Lady Raiders came away with a sweep, taking down Oakland 24-9 and Franklin County 45-12.

CHS boys split Oakland, Franklin County

Opening the tri-meet against Oakland, the Red Raiders’ wins included a victory for Caleb Studd over Amir Miller in the 113-pound weight class, with Studd winning by fall at the 4:58 mark. Marcus Uselton followed this up with a 10-3 decision win over Luke Frost in the 126-pound weight division. William Barlow went on to add a victory in the 157-pound class, winning by fall over Joseph Weese with 4:28 on the board. Up next was Eli McLean in the 165-pound division, who won by fall over King Hill with 1:38 on the clock. Competing in the 175-pound weight class, Kameron Stafford-Turner picked up an 8-1 decision victory over Ja’mycah Williamson.

Dyson Leverette got it started for Coffee County against Franklin County with a forfeit win in the 120-pound weight class. Uselton followed this up with a win by fall over Damonte Raybon in the 126-pound weight division. Up next was Carlos Valle-Martinez in the 138-pound class, who took down Wesley Dart via a fall at the 36-second mark. Toccoa Gaines went on to win by fall over Aron Long with 3:15 on the clock.

Barlow added another victory in the 157-pound bout, winning by fall with 3:28 on the board. McLean continued Coffee County’s run, holding on for an 8-7 decision win over Jacob Bradford in the 165-pound weight class. Stafford-Turner followed with a win by fall over Jamison Lynch in the 175-pound weight division with 1:24 on the clock. Competing in the 190-pound class, Joshua Mainville picked up a 12-1 major decision victory over Evan Smith.

Zander Warrick went on to add a forfeit win for the Red Raiders in the 215-pound weight class. Tanner Vernon was next with a 2-0 decision victory over Shawn Brockman in the 285-pound weight division. Giddeon Mascari followed with another forfeit win for Coffee County in the 106-pound class, before Studd added a forfeit win of his own at 113 pounds.

Lady Raiders go 2-0

Opening the night against Oakland, the Coffee County girls’ wrestling team’s wins included Sophia Rodriguez over Jayce Pogue in the 100-pound weight class, with Rodriguez forcing the fall with 4:54 on the board. Up next was Jasmine Norris in the 126-pound weight division, adding a win by fall over Amaris Porter with 2:35 on the clock. Gabrielle Silva followed with a win by fall over Natalya Watson in the 132-pound class, with the fall coming with 5:55 on the board. Competing in the 138-pound division, Aime Miller came out on top over Mia Lowe via a win by fall at the 4:41 mark.

Against Franklin County, the Lady Raiders’ victories included a forfeit win for Rodriguez in the 100-pound weight class. Norris picked up a win by fall over Julietta Garcia Alonso in the 126-pound weight division, with the fall coming at the 1:52 mark. Silva went on to earn a 9-2 decision victory over Willow Templeton in the 132-pound class. Miller followed this up with a win by fall over Audrey Mixon in the 138-pound division with 15 seconds on the clock.

Jianna Bare added a win via forfeit in the 145-pound weight class, as did Marlee Wimley in the 165-pound weight division. Ellysia Jennings took down Jazel Wilkerson in the 185-pound bout, winning by fall at the 1:47 mark. Keyauna Hill went on to add another Coffee County forfeit win in the 235-pound class.

Coffee County returns to action with a road  tri-meet against Warren County and Smryna Thursday evening.
