Ray Smith has informed Overton County News of his intent to seek election to the office of Overton County Sheriff. His statement is as follows:

“My name is Ray Smith, and I am proud to announce my candidacy for Sheriff of Overton County.

“For 28 years, I have dedicated my life to law enforcement and public service. Throughout my career, my focus has been on protecting our citizens, supporting fellow officers, and serving this community with integrity and fairness. Overton County is my home, and keeping it safe is my commitment.

“As Sheriff, my priorities will be public safety, accountability, and community trust. A key part of that commitment is my dedication to Overton County’s school system. Our children and school staff deserve a safe learning environment, and that responsibility must always come first.

“I am committed to ensuring our School Resource Officers receive the proper training, tools, and support they need to effectively protect students, teachers, and staff. Strong SRO training, open communication with school administrators, and proactive safety planning are essential to keeping our schools secure.

“I also believe communication with the public is vital. A Facebook page is being created to provide information, campaign updates, and a way for the citizens of Overton County to ask questions, share concerns, and stay informed. I want to be accessible, transparent, and accountable to the people I serve.

“With 28 years of experience, I am prepared to lead the Overton County Sheriff’s Office with steady leadership, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to protecting our schools, our families, and our constitutional rights.
