Crash that shut down I-55 for hours kills 2, injures 2 others, police say
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two people died and two others were injured in a five-car crash that shut down Interstate 55 for hours Wednesday afternoon, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).
The Tennessee Department of Transportation reported around 4:30 p.m. a multi-vehicle crash on I-55 at the South Parkway exit. It shut down the interstate for over 5 hours, with drivers being diverted onto East McLemore Avenue.
MPD said two people died in the crash, while two others were taken to the hospital and expected to survive.
