Memphis task force arrests 16-year-old murder suspect
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A 16-year-old wanted for second-degree murder was arrested this week, according to the Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF).
The task force said the teen was taken into custody Tuesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest over the weekend. He was arrested on Pawnee Avenue in the Westwood neighborhood, MSTF said.
The task force said the teen was wanted in the shooting death of Sherman Berry, who was killed Dec. 2 at a convenience store near West Raines and Westmont roads.
The teen was among 67 people who were arrested Tuesday by the task force. MSTF also said it had seized 10 more illicit firearms during its operation that day.
The task force also noted the following arrests:
- Tommy McShane, 60, was arrested on the 900 block of Alaska Street; he was wanted for second-degree murder on a warrant issued Nov. 14, 2025.
- Montavius Wells, 28, was arrested on the 3700 block of Douglas Avenue on a warrant for first-degree murder issued Dec. 26, 2025. The task force identified him as a “documented” gang member.
MSTF said Wednesday that it has made over 4,900 arrests and seized nearly 800 illegal firearms along with “substantial quantities” of drugs since its launch in late September.
