Toliver
Gary Alner Toliver was born on March 14, 1956, in South Bend, Indiana, to Harold Vincent Toliver and Millicent Maynor. He died peacefully at his home in Madison, Tenn., on Nov. 23, 2025. Gary spent his early years in Baltimore, Maryland, before his family settled in Manchester, Tennessee, where he attended middle and high school. He went on to graduate from Middle Tennessee State University, earning a degree in History. His family’s pawn shops in Middle Tennessee sparked a lifelong interest in historical objects and the stories behind them. For 34 years, Gary owned and operated Toliver’s Jewelry and Loan in Madison, Tennessee, proudly serving his community until his retirement in 2023. Gary had a deep appreciation for the world’s beauty, and he nurtured that love through travel. Throughout his life, he explored nearly every state and many countries with his friends and family, gathering some of his most cherished memories along the way. He valued his loved ones profoundly and often expressed heartfelt gratitude for the people who touched his life. To those who knew him, he was Gary, GT, Uncle Gary, and Dad. He is survived by his wife, Ann Toliver; his daughter, Olivia (Eli) Toliver Beasley; and his sister, Kim (Mike) Eaton. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy.
