West Memphis Police Chief Robbin Campbell Jr. leaving, department says

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – Chief Robbin A. Campbell, Jr. is leaving the department, the West Memphis Police Department said Wednesday.

In a post to their Facebook page, the department shared their deep appreciation for Chief Campbell, who led the department for nearly four years, from January 2022 to the end of 2025. “Chief Campbell’s leadership was rooted in one clear mission: community policing,” the department said. “During his tenure, he created the Community Engagement Division, established the K-9 Division, and introduced Bike Patrol, strengthening relationships and trust throughout the city.”

The West Memphis Police Department said crime remained at an all-time low during Campbell’s tenure, “helping citizens feel safer and more confident in their police department.”

“Chief Campbell believed in opportunity and growth. He ensured every officer had a chance to advance, leading to the most female promotions in West Memphis Police Department history,” the department said.

They said their recruitment also reached an all-time high.

“These were successful years that built a foundation for a successful career,” the department said. “Chief Campbell’s impact, leadership, and commitment to West Memphis will not be forgotten. Thank you for serving with integrity, vision, and heart.”

West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon appointed Harvey W. Taylor III as Interim Chief of Police, effective January 1.

Major Taylor started his career in law enforcement with Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department in Ripley, Tennessee. He’s lived in Crittenden County for 18 years and joined West Memphis Police Department in 2008.

Officials said Major Taylor worked in Patrol, Street Crimes, Criminal Investigations and Narcotics. He joined the Special Response team in 2010 and later served as Team Leader and Commander. Taylor was promoted to Sergeant in 2014, Lieutenant in 2019, Captain in 2021, and Major in 2022.
