PREP ROUNDUP: CHS volleyball tops Tullahoma in five sets

Coffee County volleyball was back in front of its home crowd Thursday night, welcoming cross-county rival Tullahoma to Joe Frank Patch Gymnasium.
The match went the distance, with Coffee County holding off the Lady Wildcats to win 3-2.
The Lady Raiders took the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-17, before Tullahoma came storming back to win the third and fourth sets 25-17 and 25-22. In the decisive fifth set, Coffee County took care of business with a 15-7 victory to seal the match.
Danni Hillis led the team in kills with eight over the course of the match. Hayleigh Harris, Allysa Goon and Morgen Spears followed with seven each, just ahead of Carrington Saner with six. Cailey Sturgill came away with three kills. Andon Selvog had one.
Hillis also led the way in aces with four. Taylor Brinkley added two.
Hillis and Saner were both credited with one block each.
Brinkley was the team’s assist leader, posting 17. Selvog followed with 13. Jenslee Nogodula recorded three assists. Goon, Spears and Cara Newlin each had one.
Nogodula took the top spot in the digs category with 19. Brinkley followed with 16, just ahead of Goon with 15. Up next was Selvog with 11 digs. Hillis added five. Sturgill was credited with three. Saner and Newlin both had two digs each. Harris, Spears and Emma Haley each had one.
Coffee County (6-2) hosts Lawrence County for a district matchup on Tuesday. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
CHS golf splits with DeKalb
The Coffee County golf team was back at WillowBrook Golf Club to face off against DeKalb County in a nine-hole competition Thursday.
The Red Raiders came out on top, posting a score of 148 to DeKalb’s 160. The Lady Raiders were not able to complete the sweep, finishing with a 97 to DeKalb’s 80.
Boys’ scorers for Coffee County included Jack Stowe and Noah Costello, who both carded a 35. Jaxon Phillips shot a 38 and was followed by Landon Collins with a 40.
On the girls’ side, Ella Arnold came away with a 48, just ahead of Karaline Matthews with a 49.
Coffee County travels to Sewanee Tuesday to take on Marion County. Tee times are set to begin at 4 p.m.
WEDNESDAY RESULTS
WMS volleyball falls to Eagleville
The Lady Rockets were back at home to take on Eagleville Wednesday, falling 2-0 in the varsity match by set scores of 25-20 and 25-16. In the JV match, Westwood won 2-0, with set scores of 25-18 and 25-15.
Westwood will travel to Cascade for a 5 p.m. match next Wednesday.
