PREP ROUNDUP: Westwood volleyball takes Wednesday home match

After an eight-day match hiatus, the Westwood Middle School volleyball team was back in action for a home match against Lewisburg Wednesday evening.
The Lady Rockets came out on top 2-0 in both the varsity and JV contests, with the JV team getting it started with 25-5 and 25-7 set wins. The varsity squad followed this up with 25-17 and 25-13 set victories in the next match to close it out.
“The girls were on it tonight,” Westwood coach Abigail Layne said. “Very minimal errors and great hustle.”
Westwood will remain at home to take on Forrest at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
CCMS varsity volleyball falls to Warren
The Coffee County Middle School volleyball team returned home for a match against Warren County Wednesday evening.
The JV group got things going with a 2-1 victory, but the varsity team was unable to come out on top in a 2-1 loss.
Coffee County remains at home to face Community at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Cross Country
Raiders, Lady Raiders host Coffee County Invitational
The Coffee County cross country team welcomed a wide variety of teams to the Coffee County Invitational at Old Stone Fort Golf Course Tuesday evening.
In the high school 5,000-meter run team standings, the Lady Raiders finished in fifth out of 10 teams with 129 points. On the boys’ side, the Red Raiders took 11th out of 16 teams with 251 points.
Blackman took the top spot in the girls’ team standings with 49 points. Franklin County paced the boys’ team standings with 73 points.
Bailey Kitts led Coffee County’s girls’ runners with a 12th place finish at a time of 23:04.00. Thompson Love led the team in the boys’ race, clocking in at 18:31.00 for 20th place.
Lancaster Christian Academy’s Mercy Whitt took first place in the girls’ race with a time of 20:44.00. Franklin County’s Jayden Smith placed first in the boys’ race, crossing the finish line at 17:07.00.
In the middle school 2-mile races, the Westwood boys’ squad took 10th place out of 12 in the team standings with 277 points. This was the only local middle school team competing in the team standings.
In the individual girls’ standings, Coffee Middle’s Lilly Keenan posted a 9th place finish with a time of 14:53.00 to lead the Lady Raiders. Westwood’s top runner was Braelynn Thompson, who placed 12th at a time of 14:57.00.
In the boys’ race, Coffee Middle’s top finisher was Nicolas Gonzalaz, who posted a time of 13:44.00 to secure 18th place. Westwood’s Wyatt Hess led the Rockets with a time of 14:46.00 for a 49th place finish.
Christiana Middle School’s Mila Black took 1st place in the middle school race with a time of 12:39.00. Tullahoma’s Lincoln Price placed first in the boys’ competition, coming in at a time of 12:25.00.

Coffee County Middle School picked up its first win of the 2025 season in dominant fashion Tuesday, taking down host Bridgeforth 44-14.
Coffee County (1-3) returns home to face off against Tullahoma at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
