It’s about to get hot at the MAC with the opening of ‘Hadestown’

Anaïs Mitchell’s “Hadestown: Teen Edition,” from Millennium Repertory Company’s Teen Actors Guild, opens Friday, Aug. 8, at the Manchester Arts Center.

It’s a Greek myth about love, choices, and finding hope in hard times, told in a fresh and modern way. The music mixes folk, blues, jazz, and pop. It’s your chance to see some amazing local talent in this Broadway sensation.

Director Jason Griffey’s cast features Edgar Guzman as Hermes, Ethan Bennett as Orpheus, Eliza Griffey as Eurydice, Gil McLean as Hades, and Alyssa Freeze as Persephone. The trio of Fates are Lucy Smith, Leah Deuermeyer and Loralei Petty. Kat Carpenter is the onstage musician.

Workers and dancers include Carter Jernigan (who will play Hades at the Aug. 9 performance), Aliza Freeze, Annabel Weintraub, Annabelle Keith, Annalise Gribble, Elsie Lazalier, Erin Maccagnone, Grace Herod, James Petty, Jay Eaton, Jeffery Hale, Jonathon Williams, Jordan Colwell, Kaylee Hensley, Lola Smith, Lucia Polansky, Olivia Bryan, Sarah Rogers, Thomas Keith and Wayne Medley.

“Hadestown: Teen Edition” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.

“Hadestown: Teen Edition” runs August 8 – 10 and 15 – 17, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and military, and $10 for students, and are available at millenniumrep.org or by calling 931.570.4489.
