The Brentwood-based Predator Racing Monster Truck team will be making its Coffee County Fair debut at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2.
Founded by team owner Allen Pezo 41 years ago, Predator Racing will be bringing six different Monster Trucks to the fair this year.
“We are going to have four full-size Monster Trucks, two mini–Monster Trucks to do a full blown show,” Pezo said. “There will be three competitions in the show, a wheelie contest, racing and freestyle.”
Pezo described Monster Trucks as a 12 ft. tall and 12 ft. wide beast with engines ranging from big block Chevrolets to aftermarket aluminum Hemi engines.
“They very anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower,” he said.
Rather than standard pump gasoline, these trucks are powered by methanol alcohol, which is commonly used for different racing applications.
The Monster Trucks run fiberglass bodies that can depict anything from a traditional truck body to something completely custom.
“Everyone kind of has their own idea of what they think is cool,” Pezo said. “I am one of the originators of the concept bodies, which is a body to look like something other than a factory production vehicle. Mine actually looks like a giant black panther.”
Pezo said he first became interested in Monster Trucks as a young kid.
“I built my first truck at 15-years old and have been doing it ever since,” he said.
After more than four decades of campaigning Monster Trucks across the country, Pezo said what he has enjoyed the most is “not having a real job.”
With six drivers, the team competes at more than 100 events each year that range from stadiums and arenas to superspeedways and car dealerships and birthday parties.
Those planning on attending the show at the Coffee County Fair should plan on an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes of entertainment.
“It is high flying action, you can feel the thunder and amazing things that a normal vehicle won’t do, these will do,” Pezo said.
