Coffee Middle drops season opener at West Wilson

On Thursday, Aug. 1, the Coffee Middle Red Raiders lost their 2024 season opener at West Wilson 35-6.

The host Warriors would make it all the way down to the Coffee County 20 yard line on their first drive, but would turn it over on downs.

Coffee County would take over, but on their next drive they were forced to punt from their own 10, giving the Warriors prime field position.

West Wilson would strike first on their second drive of the game to take a 7-0 lead with 3:14 to go in the first quarter.

As the game flipped over to the second quarter, the Red Raiders would again be forced to punt, this time from their own 47. It appeared that West Wilson had scored on the punt return, but it was later called back and the score remained 7-0.

The Warriors would then score on their next two drives, including a clock-beating score to give them a 21-0 advantage at the half.

Coffee County would show some life at the start of the second half, scoring with 5:10 to go in the third quarter to make it a 21-6 game. The Red Raiders would miss the extra point attempt.

West Wilson would answer back on their next drive, scoring with one second left in the third quarter to make the score 28-6.

The next drive by the Red Raiders would take up over half of the fourth quarter, but would end in a turnover on downs.

The next Warrior drive would end up another touchdown, and West Wilson would go on to win 35-6.

The Red Raiders will play host to Gladeville in their home opener on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
