The Westwood Rockets moved to 1-1 on the season after a 40-0 shutout win over Liberty on Thursday night in Manchester.
Liberty would begin the game on offense, but their first drive would end in a three-and-out and the Patriots were forced to punt from their own 37 yard line.
It wouldn’t take long for Westwood to score the game’s first touchdown, as Kam Cooley exploded for a 70 yard touchdown run on the Rockets’ first offensive play.
The Rockets would go for a two point conversion and complete it to give themselves an 8-0 lead with just a little over two minutes played.
Liberty would be forced to punt again on their next drive, and the Rockets took advantage of their good field position as Laythan Wix scored on a rushing touchdown with over a minute remaining in the first quarter. The Rockets would fail on the ensuing two point try, but remain ahead 14-0.
Westwood went on to score twice in the second quarter, including a touchdown reception by Wix with 35 seconds left as the Rockets went into halftime up 26-0.
Out of the halftime break, the Rockets continued their barrage, as Aiden Jones broke free on a passing play to score a touchdown just 22 seconds into the third quarter and Westwood completed a two point play to make the score 34-0.
The Rockets would score one more time in the third as Brady Clem scored on a receiving touchdown with 2:48 to go in the quarter. Westwood failed to convert on a two point try, but the Rockets still went up 40-0, a lead that they would keep until the end of the game.
The Westwood Rockets are now 1-1 on the season and will travel to Eagleville for their next game on Friday, Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m.
