Charles Dickens’ classic tale of transformation and redemption will be performed at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, in a the restored church building, The Church @ 117

Nashville actor Mark Cabus will bring his one-man version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol to for a free no admission show. A freewill offering will follow the performance.

Cabus is a professional actor/director/writer with numerous theater, television, and movie credits over a nearly 50-year career, from the Academy Award-winning Selma and Nicolas Sparks’ The Longest Ride to stints on HBO’s True Detective, Fox’s The Resident, and AMC’s TURN: Washington’s Spies. Locally, he most recently portrayed Prospero in the Nashville Shakespeare Festival’s The Tempest at OneC1ty and Every Brilliant Thing in Nashville Rep’s 2019-2020 season. In this 75-minute interactive version he adapted from Dickens’ holiday classic, Cabus plays 18 different roles, from Ebenezer Scrooge to Tiny Tim. Audiences participate in the performance by contributing live sound effects and singing carols. It’s fun for the whole family.

“I love performing this play for Middle Tennessee audiences and am very excited about bringing it to The Church @ 117,” said Cabus, who teaches Theatre at both Vanderbilt and Belmont universities. “I’m grateful for the privilege of performing A Christmas Carol there.”

Perfect for the entire family, Cabus’ performance has been lauded by critics and audiences all over the Southeast since he started performing the piece two decades ago. “Cabus delivers a tour de force, acting out all the parts in Charles Dickens’ holiday classic and making it seem as if that’s the only way it should be done…,” wrote Kevin Nance, the former theatre critic for The Tennessean. ‘“This Christmas Carol’ is one of the smallest yet most sensational shows of the year.
