John Scott Fletcher of Lynchburg passed away on Wednesday, March 4, at his home, surrounded by his family at the age of 84. John was born Dec. 23, 1941 in Manchester, to the late John William and Nettie Lucille Fletcher. He graduated from Manchester Central High School in 1961. Mr. Fletcher worked as a talented agriculture equipment mechanic for more than 30 years- most notably at A &G Equipment and Bartlett Implements before retiring from Sverdrup in 2006 as a maintenance technician. Mr. Fletcher was a member of County Line Church of Christ. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tractor pulls, and nature walks. He was a very talented craftsman and mechanic with an eye for perfection in everything that he created, built, or repaired. He never turned down a person who needed his help, especially if he was tasked with a new woodworking project. He was always glad to share the vast knowledge and experience he had acquired over his many years. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Fletcher; three brothers, Rondell, Eddie, and Phillip Fletcher; and one sister, Gloria Bush. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia Cyree Fletcher; one sister, Brenda Anderson of Morrison, TN; one daughter, Lorrie McKenzie Snapp (Bill); two grandsons, Jared (Sierra) and Evan McKenzie; one granddaughter Erin Williams (Brandon); and two great-grandchildren Charlie Beth Williams and Liam Douglas McKenzie – all of Lynchburg. Visitation for Mr. Fletcher was held on Friday, March 6, from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Kilgore Funeral Home. A graveside service followed at 1 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jim Sanders officiating.
