All-Star game brings fun for local families

On Saturday night, the Harlem Legends brought their entertaining brand of basketball to Manchester, as they faced off against the Coffee County All-Stars at “The Patch”.

The Coffee All-Stars fell behind quickly in the game, as the Legends rifled in about every shot they took, and took to the sky for some rim rattling dunks en route to a 67-37 half time lead.

The Legends, led by Michael Douglas, also decided to partake in a variety of different shenanigans.

In the middle of the second quarter, the Legends started a dance to “Baby Shark”, and both teams, along with the children and youth attending the game, danced along on the gym floor.

During the third quarter, the legends decided to take a water break, which instead of drinking water, they decided to douse the referee with a bucket of water.

Thankfully for the Legends, the referee did not call a technical foul.

Towards the end of the game, Douglas took it upon himself to go over to the scorers table and sound the buzzer multiple times.

The game wasn’t over at that point, but it might as well have been as the Legends would cruise to a 94-59 victory.

“They were way better than us,” said Coffee County guard and Spring Athletic Director Brad Costello after the game.

Though the game didn’t quite go the way the Coffee All-Stars wanted, the scoreboard wasn’t the most important aspect of the event.

“It was a great event for families to come out and spend time together,” said Costello. “It was also a good way to get kids excited for Coffee County basketball, whether they become a fan or a player.”

Coffee All-Star coach and Fall Athletic Director Brandon McWhorter said of the event, “I loved seeing all the laughter and the smiles. I hope we can have an event like this again in the near future.”
