CCCHS Basketball goes 5-0 on Hall of Fame Play Day

The Lady Raiders win three games while the Red Raiders win two on a basketball-filled Saturday in Coffee County.
There were 20 high school basketball games played in Coffee County on Saturday, with seven of them taking place at Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gymnasium, six taking place at Coffee County Middle School and another seven taking place at Tullahoma High School.
Of these 20 games, five of them were played by the basketball teams of Coffee County Central High School, and each of them resulted in a win.
The Lady Raiders played three games on the day, with their first game taking place at 9:00 AM against Fayetteville.
The early start did not seem to deter the Lady Raiders, as they raced out to a 24-2 first quarter lead.
Coffee would double their points total in the second quarter for a 48-14 halftime lead.
The Lady Raiders scored another 20 points in the third to lead 68-30 going into the fourth before winning, 77-34.
Scoring for the Lady Raiders were Jules Ferrell and Olivia Vinson with 12 points each, Natalie Barnes with 11 points, Jaydee Nogodula with nine, Channa Gannon with eight, Audri Patton and Nakayjah Holman with seven points each, Morgan Spears with four, Kasen Morgan with three and Reece Finch with two.
For their second of three games, the Lady Raiders would square off against the Beech Lady Bucs at 4:30.
The first quarter was a slugfest, as Coffee took a 5-0 lead before Beech scored their first points with 3:40 left in the first quarter, and Coffee would lead 12-5 after the first.
Scoring opened up in the second quarter as the Lady Raiders would outscore the Lady Bucs 19-16 in the second to take a 31-21 halftime lead.
Momentum carried into the second half as the Lady Raiders would lead 52-36 after the third before winning the game, 67-41.
“They were a state tournament team last year that had four starters return, so we knew it would be a dog fight,” said Coffee Coach Joe Pat Cope. “I thought our girls responded well with a stronger defense in the second half.”
Scoring for the Lady Raiders in this one were Natalie Barns with 15 points, Jules Ferrell and Olivia Vinson with 12 points each, Channah Gannon with nine, Nakayjah Holman with six, Audri Patton and Ava Mcintosh with five points each and Jaydee Nogodula with three.
The Red Raiders would turn around and play the Nashville Christian Lady Eagles for their third and final game of the day, and win yet again, this time by a score of 71-46.
While the Lady Raiders took care of business at Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gymnasium, the Red Raiders won their two games at Coffee County Middle School.
In their first match at noon, the Red Raiders were pitted against the Central Magnet Tigers in a tight battle.
The Red Raiders would lead by a thread, 21-19 after the first, then space it out a little bit in the second quarter for a 37-32 halftime lead.
The Tigers would come roaring back in the third quarter, and lead 52-49 heading into the final frame.
The Red Raiders would come back in the fourth, outscoring the Tigers 13-5 to win the game 62-57.
Scoring for the Red Raiders were Cooper Reed with 32 points, Jackson Shemwell with 14 points, Brady Wright with six, Cayden Trail with four, Courtland Ferrar and Jayden Carter with two points each and David Lewis and Camden Hunt with one point each.
The Red Raiders would come back at 6:30 to play the Portland Panthers.
The game was tough and gritty to start, and the two teams were knotted at 12-12 after the first quarter.
Coffee got the edge in the second quarter, outscoring the Panthers 17-11 for a 29-23 halftime lead.
The Red Raiders would gradually build there lead up in the third quarter, leading 44-34 with eight minutes to go, before winning the game, 62-50.
Scoring for the Red Raiders were Jackson Shemwell with 21 points, Courtland Ferrar with 11 points, Brady Wright with 10 points, Cooper Reed with eight and Caiden Trail and Jayden Carter each had six.
“We stayed composed and executed our game plan,” said Coffee Coach Andrew Taylor. “We executed well offensively, we made our free throws and we didn’t give up a lot of second opportunities on defense.”
Coffee High School hoops will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 21 when they play host to Oakland.
