Red Raiders fall to Kirkwood, Lady Raiders beat CPA

On Thursday, the Coffee County Red Raiders lost to the Kirkwood Cobras at Blackman, while the Lady Raiders beat the CPA Lady Lions at Tullahoma.
In Murfreesboro, the Red Raiders’ three game winning streak came to an end after a tough outing against the Kirkwood Cobras in the Outback Classic.
The Cobras struck first, going ahead 15-11 in the first quarter.
Kirkwood padded their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Red Raiders 23-10 to lead at halftime, 38-21.
The Red Raiders tried to keep pace in the third, but the Cobras stayed in front, leading 50-32 through three quarters.
Kirkwood went up by as much as 30 points in the fourth quarter before beating the Red Raiders, 70-42.
Scoring for the Red Raiders in this one were Cooper Reed with 10 points, Jackson Shemwell with eight points, Brady Wright with seven points, Courtland Ferrar and Jayden Carter with four points each, Camden Hunt with three points, Cayden Trail and Kayson Lowery with two points each and Jaiden Warren and David Lewis with one point each.
The Coffee County Red Raiders are now 6-7 on the season, and will be back in action tomorrow at Tullahoma High School to face Dyersburg at 1:30 pm in the Jeff Taylor Classic.
Meanwhile, back in Tullahoma, the Lady Raiders got back in the win column with a victory over the Christ Presbyterian Lady Lions in the Jeff Taylor Classic.
The Lady Lions had the edge to start, leading the Lady Raiders 13-10 after the first quarter.
Coffee County fought back in the second quarter, outscoring CPA 17-6 to take the lead at halftime, 27-19.
The Lady Lions came roaring back in the third, outscoring the Lady Raiders 14-8, but Coffee still led 35-33 heading into the fourth, where the Lady Raiders would finish out the game, winning 49-39.
“That’s a good basketball team,” Coach Joe Pat Cope said of CPA. “We were able to weather the storm and once we got the lead up to eight or ten points we were able to hang on. That was a good win over a good basketball team, and now we’re gonna go get ready and play some more of the best teams in the state.”
Scoring for the Lady Raiders were Natalie Barnes with 20 points, Olivia Vinson with 19 points, Jules Ferrell with eight points and Audri Patton and Ava McIntosh with one point each.
The Lady Raiders are now 13-2 and their next game will be against Alcoa in their first game of the Lenoir City Christmas Tournament on Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 9:00 am EST.
