On Thursday, Coffee County High School senior Willow Carden signed her letter of intent to play college softball at Volunteer State Community College.

Carden plans to major in elementary education when she attends college next fall.

“It took me a while before deciding to play college softball,” said Carden. “But Coach Lynn was super nice and patient with me. One of my friends, Kaitlyn Davis, who I’ve played with for years is also playing for Vol State and I just feel like they were a great choice for me as well.”

Carden, who plays first base for the Lady Raiders, had a fantastic year in 2023, with a .422 batting average, six home runs, nine stolen bases, 41 total runs and a school record 49 runs batted in.

Aside from being a force to be reckoned with on offense, Carden hopes to be a good teammate in her last year of high school softball.

“I just want to help lead the team in an uplifting way,” she said. “I also want to make sure I play for the Lord in all I do and represent him, my family and this program well.”

Willow Carden and the Lady Raider Softball Team will begin the 2024 season in March.
