Lady Raiders end season undefeated, Red Raiders fall to Cannon

On Thursday night in Woodbury, the Coffee Middle Lady Raiders defeated the Cannon County Lady Lions to go undefeated in the regular season while the Lions were too much to handle for the Red Raiders.
After a long season that has included close wins and dominant performances, the Coffee County Middle School Lady Raiders have finished their regular season schedule with an undefeated record.
To achieve that goal, the Lady Raiders needed one more win against the Cannon County Lady Lions, and they did not disappoint, as Coffee won the game, 49-25 to finish the regular season with a 20-0 regular season record.
“I’m very proud of these girls to finish the season undefeated,” said Coach David Vinson. “But we still have some work to do and even more goals to accomplish. The biggest key for us heading into the post season is to continue to play with the same intensity we have all year and continue to play together.”
Scoring for the Lady Raiders in their final regular season game were Hayleigh Harris with 15 points, Addalyn Clark with 14 points, Avery Pruitt with 11 points and Jenslee Nogodula, Brylyn McAdams and Kinsley Pruitt with three points each.
On the other side, the Red Raiders have had a very up and down year and it ended with another loss to Cannon County.
The Red Raiders set the pace in the opening quarter, outscoring the Lions 8-6, but Cannon County came back in the second quarter, shutting out the Red Raiders 19-0 to lead at halftime, 25-8.
Coffee continued to falter in the second half of the game, as the Lions outscored the Red Raiders 19-12 in the half to run away with the win, 44-20.
Scoring for the Red Raiders were Jaxon Pruitt with six points, Ryan Abellana with five points, Jack Oliver with four points, Jude Golembiewski with three points and Warren Simmons with two points.
The Red Raiders finish the season with an 8-12 record as they head into the post season.
“Although our zone offense isn’t where it needs to be right now, I feel like we have improved in that area throughout the year,” said Coach Jonathan Oliver. “But if we’re going to make a run in the post season, we have to continue to get better and continue to do well with our zone defense.”
The Coffee County Middle School Lady Raiders and Red Raiders will look to continue their season in the CTC Tournament next week.
