On Monday night, the Coffee County Lady Raiders returned home with another dominant win, while the Red Raiders got back on track with a win over Spring Hill.
For the fourth time in five games, the Coffee County Lady Raiders won by over 30 points in a dominating win over the Spring Hill Lady Raiders.
The Lady Raiders would get off to a hot start with a 12-0 run to start the first quarter, outscoring Spring Hill 21-4.
Coffee County continued to roll, going on a 17-0 run to start the second quarter before heading into halftime up 39-13.
The Lady Raiders kept their foot to the floor in the third, outscoring Spring Hill 22-5 to lead 61-18 heading into the fourth.
Coffee’s bench unit once again got big minutes in the fourth, as Spring Hill outscored the Lady Raiders 7-0, but Coffee held on for a 61-25 win.
“We did a good job making the extra pass tonight,” said Coach Joe Pat Cope. “Our ball movement was good and Channah did a good job finding the shooters while being doubled in the post. I was a little disappointed that we didn’t score anything in the fourth quarter because I wanted our younger girls to attack and score and I don’t think we did a good job of that late in the game. It’s important for these younger players to get those minutes and it’s going to be exciting next year with everybody coming back and with eighth graders like Addalyn Clark and Hayleigh Harris coming up.”
Scoring for the Lady Raiders were Olivia Vinson with 20 points, Natalie Barnes with 14 points, Jules Ferrell with eight points, Channah Gannon with seven points, Audri Patton with six points and Ella Arnold and Jaydee Nogodula with three points each.
The Coffee County Lady Raiders are now 24-3 overall with a 8-0 district record.
Meanwhile, the Coffee County Red Raiders were looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Lincoln County on Saturday.
The Red Raiders jumped out at the start, outscoring Spring Hill 16-5 in the opening quarter.
Coffee County widened their lead in the second, outscoring Spring Hill 15-6 to lead by 20 points at halftime, 31-11.
The Red Raiders continued to put up points in the third, as they outscored the visiting Raiders 11-6 before giving their bench unit a load of playing team in the fourth, where they closed out the game, 55-26.
“Tonight was a good defensive effort,” said Coach Andrew Taylor. “The bench unit got a ton of minutes tonight which is important because you never know when someone will get hurt or get sick and you’re going to need to use them. So it’s good that they got some varsity minutes tonight. We got the win, we got to rest some guys, we got to play a lot of other guys and nobody got hurt, so it was a good night.”
Scoring for the Red Raiders in this one were Brady Wright with 17 points, Cayden Trail and Jayden Carter with seven points each, Camden Hunt with six points, Caleb McCall with four points, Luke Campbell and Jackson Shemwell with three points each and David Lewis, Lane Fann, Kaysen Lowery and Cooper Reed with two points each.
The Coffee County Red Raiders improved to 15-11 overall and 6-2 in district play.
Coffee County basketball will get ready to host Senior Night on Tuesday, Feb. 6 when they play host to Lincoln County.
