On Wednesday afternoon, Coffee County seniors Xavier Randolph and Javon Simmons both signed on to play college football, with Randolph choosing Tennessee Tech and Simmons signing with Independence Community College of Kansas.
Randolph, having played one year of football with the Red Raiders as a defensive end and linebacker, plans on becoming an RN or going into the sports medicine field.
On choosing Tennessee Tech, Randolph said, “They really wanted me and I really wanted to be there. It’s in-state, I’m a fan of the color purple and I’ve been up there a couple of times and they have a nice community up there. I’m looking forward to putting in the work and improving my craft and hopefully I can make it to the next level.”
Also signing on to play college football was offensive tackle Javon Simmons.
Simmons played for all four years of his high school career at Coffee County, and he plans on majoring in psychology and criminal justice when he attends Independence Community College next fall.
“They reached out to me and I feel like they offered me the best scholarship out of any of my other offers,” said Simmons. “I’m going to miss the connections and brotherhood I had here at Coffee County, but I’m also looking forward to forming bonds with new people.”
Coffee County Football Coach Roger Haynes had this to say about his two former players, “Javon plays a really physical game and that was what jumped out on film to the coaches at Independence. He finishes his blocks well and plays from snap to whistle every play. Xavier is really explosive off of the ball and he was one of the most athletic kids that we have had. I think he’ll be able to rush the passer really well in college, and the coaches at Tech feel like he might get to start playing pretty early on.”
