On Thursday night, the Lady Raider Softball Team played host to Cascade in their season-opening game at Terry Floyd Field, winning in dominant fashion, 12-1.

After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Raiders would strike first in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs to lead 2-0.

Coffee County would then score four runs in the third inning and add another three in the fourth inning to lead 9-0 through four innings of play.

The score remained the same until the Cascade Champions scored their first run of the game in the top of the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Coffee County senior Madison Pruitt hit a three-run home run to make the score 12-1 and the Lady Raiders would pick up their first win of the season, outhitting the Champions 7-3.

Pruitt also scored a run in the second inning on a Lily Norman sacrifice fly.

Lily Norman would earn the win on the mound for the Lady Raiders, pitching four innings, allowing no hits or runs and striking out six batters in 46 pitches.

“Usually on opening night, you have those first night jitters, but our girls didn’t really show it tonight,” said Coach Brandon McWhorter. “Defensively, we played really well and made some good plays. Hitting the ball, we had some ups and downs so we have to continue working on that. We want to get better each day than the day before and be ready for the postseason in May.”

The Lady Raiders will be back in action on Wednesday, March 13 when they play host to Spring Hill.
